A buyer or seller may request additional exams or videos beyond the scope of what is offered pertaining to the specific horse listed. T’Breds offers assistance in this area with a comprehensive insertion team that can provide Radiographs, endoscopic exams, conformation photos, walk/jog/breeze videos, lab tests, drug screens, and other examinations. If possible every seller should provide a pedigree and physical exam report, to include examination of the eyes, heart, and genitalia, as well as a close look at the legs for any areas of concern. Depending on the horse and its “market reach,” other exams, such as an ultrasound might be performed. Some horses may get flexion testing, if demonstrating soundness is needed. Currently, the team is licensed to do exams in Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, California, and South Carolina. Other states will be added as needed.
Veterinary assistance can be provided by our in-house veterinary consultant, Dr. Sam Ferguson. Dr. Ferguson graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983, with the distinguished Upjohn Award for best student equine clinician. Dr. Ferguson had previous experience at Hobeau Farm and the South Florida racetracks in the 70s. After four years with Dr. Teigland as a veterinarian on the racetracks, he moved to Ocala and started his own practice in 1987. His primary interest has always been the thoroughbred racehorse. He has worked for such successful operations as Mockingbird Farm, George Steinbrenner’s Kinsman Stud Farm, Bobby Scanlon, Niall Brennan, and Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs South. Dr. Ferguson is a member of AVMA, FVMA, AAEP, and FAEP, and is licensed in eleven different states. Also a pilot, he has been attending horse sales throughout the east coast since 1990.
Video and photography assistance can be provided by David Woods, currently managing the media production team at Tbreds.net. David was raised in Ocala at his mother and father’s Thoroughbred training operations. Woods has grown to know racehorse auctions and Thoroughbred training operations in detail. His family has trained and bred Thoroughbred horses the majority of their lives. Woods competed in College level lacrosse and pursued a degree that highlighted his interest in media production. After working for several equine companies, Woods has been recruited to lead the digital media team at Tbreds.net.
Technical assistance can be provided by Robert McMinn. Before moving to Ocala, Robert was living in Tallahassee. Originally from Delaware, Robert has worked on racetracks and farms in the Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland area most of his career. He brings extensive experience with thoroughbreds as a hotwalker, groom, exercise rider, barn foreman, assistant trainer, and veterinary assistant; and is well-prepared to grow with T’Breds. As a true professional–with health well intact–Robert makes safety a top priority. And when he’s not with horses, he enjoys gardening (he dries his own tomatoes), movies, and reading about history, philosophy, psychology, and technology.
